English Sonnet V Clear Venus, who wanderest through the heavens, Hear my voice, which in laments shall sing, So long as thy face shines high in the sky, Its long labor and wearisome care. My wakeful eye shall grow all the more tender, And, beholding thee, shall shed more tears, More shall it bathe my soft bed with weeping, Thy eyes being witness to its travail. Thus are the weary spirits of mankind Fond of gentle rest and of sleep beloved.
