David Achodo is currently a Graduate Teaching Associate of French at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he is pursuing his Ph.D. in French with two certificates: Digital Humanities Graduate Certificate and Cinema Studies Graduate Certificate. A Graduate Certificate in Translation Studies accompanied his master’s degree in French. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in “French and German” from the University of Ibadan. With his proficiency in French, English, German, Fon, and Yoruba, Achodo’s research has encompassed Translation Studies, Language Acquisition, Literature, and Digital Humanities. In addition to language education, Achodo’s work aims to deepen understanding of the relationship between Western and African Languages, and how translation can bridge different cultures for inclusivity. David Achodo is the Book Review Editor of the CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture.

With a record of student advocacy, David Achodo is the “Primary Organizer and Founding Member” of the World Languages and Cultures Graduate Student Association, who did excellent work spearheading the formation of this Association. Until 2025, he has served the Classroom Upgrade Committee, and the Student Government Association, etc., and as the International Student Support Committee Chair. In addition, his passion for service and professional development inspired his productive involvement in the Student Library Advisory Committee, and Graduate Student Senate (among others), at the University of Tennessee, USA. David’s commitment to leadership is reflected in his receipt of an Award of Excellence in Service (2025).  

As a Poet, David Achodo is known for his thought-provoking, metaphysical poems that invoke self-discovery and exploration of unknown forces of life regulating all existence. He also earned an Honorary Doctorate Award in Christian Leadership, and is known for empowering others through his motivational speaking and dedication to cultural diversity. And as a Preacher, many have been inspired through Achodo’s teachings and devotion to personal growth, community development, and promotion of peace.
